For more than 90 years, Kent State has demonstrated its commitment to pioneering scientific breakthroughs and new learning technologies, while providing broad access to high-quality degrees and programs.

Kent State offers educational opportunities ranging from certificate programs, associates, bachelors, masters, education specialist and doctoral degrees. Kent State, also regarded as one of the nation's top 90 public research universities, offers a wide variety of quality services and academic programs that enrich the student experience through personal, social, educational, undergraduate internships, graduate internships, continuing education courses and career opportunities.

Kent State's president, Dr. Carol A. Cartwright, said the university sets high standards and expectations for students, in a user‑friendly academic environment.

"Our faculty sets rigorous academic standards for our students and they find ways to help students reach those standards by holding them accountable.  I want Kent State to be in tune with students' expectations and needs, while creating a user-friendly environment.  For instance, today's typical freshman student has always been in a digital world, so we need to make sure that our teaching approach is in sync with the way our students learn," she explained .  "We also try to develop a significant knowledge base about our students, so we can adapt to their emerging needs, without compromising our high standards."

Within the past few years, Kent State raised the standard high school grade point (GPA) average for admission to 2.5.  Dr. Cartwright said this standard is an indicator for students that want to succeed at Kent State.

"Our goal is success.  We didn't do this to send an elite symbol, but our research suggests that those are the students who can be successful.  Those with GPA's under 2.5 would struggle," she explained.

Alumni and friends recently demonstrated a strong commitment to Kent State and placed a significant value on higher education, by raising more than $121.9 million for The Campaign for Kent State University, the university's first comprehensive fundraising campaign.
